Hello,
Welcome to Granted Consultancy's March Grant Alert.

“2016 is going to be a year of flux in the grant sector – we have already seen the last SMART grant round pass (we will wait to see what shape that programme takes) and the Regional Growth Fund programmes will be fully allocated by Q3. As usual, flux brings opportunity for those businesses that are prepared and ready to act to make the most of new funding opportunities – we will see the deployment of Local Growth Funds, ERDF money and ESIF programmes materialise in the coming months. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss a project or grant in more detail.”

Mareike Pahl, Director at Granted Consultancy.

Final deadlines announced for Business Growth grants
The Regional Growth Fund, which has provided extensive funding to many of our clients, is ending this year. For example, the final published application deadline for funds in the South West this year is June 2016. Given that grant funding applications are complex and time consuming, if you wish to apply business growth grant funding, we recommend action as soon as possible. Projects awarded funding must spend the money by March 2017.

These funds are still fantastic opportunities, plenty of money remains within the UBI and South West Growth Fund alone – over £5million – which funding bodies still need to allocate.  If you have any projects that involve Capital Expenditure, R&D or Training Costs, then now is the time to act.

Following the 2015 Spending Review, no future rounds of the RGF are expected. We are experienced in this type of application and can give you a strong indication of how likely you are to receive funding from an initial phone callCompanies and programmes awarded grants through rounds 1 to 6 will continue to receive their funding.

BACKGROUND

Horizon 2020 is the key R&D grant support programme for all SMEs in the EU to 2020. The SME instruments scheme is part of the European Funding body Horizon 2020. It will take place in three phases, with the aim of transforming disruptive ideas into concrete, innovative solutions with a European and global impact.

SMEs are recommended to apply for Phase 1, but may also apply for subsequent phases depending on the progress of their proposals.

PHASE OVERVIEW
PHASE 1. - CONCEPT & FEASIBILITY ASSESSMENT
  • Idea to concept (6 months)
  • The European Union will provide €50,000 in funding, to carry out a feasibility study to verify the viability of the proposed disruptive innovation or concept. There is no requirement for match funding from the applicant
  • The SME will draft an initial business proposal (around 10 pages).

PHASE 2. - DEMONSTRATION, MARKET REPLICATION, R&D
  • Concept to Market-Maturity (1-2 years)
  • Assisted by the EU, the SME will further develop its proposal through innovation activities, such as demonstration, testing, piloting, scaling up, and miniaturisation. It will also draft a more developed business plan (around 30 pages).
  • Proposals will be based on a business plan developed on phase 1 or otherwise. The EU aims to contribute between €0.5 million and €2.5 million.

PHASE 3. - COMMERCIALISATION
  • Prepare for Market Launch
  • SMEs will receive extensive support, training, mentorship and facilitating access to risk finance as the project is further polished into a marketable product.
  • Additional support and networking opportunities will be provided by Enterprise Europe Network (EEN).
  • The EU will not provide additional direct funding in this phase.
